Frequently Asked Questions
That depends on order volume at the time you place you order. It could take a few days, it could take a few weeks. It usually doesn't take more than 3-4 weeks but every once in a while something like being sick puts me behind and might take up to 5 weeks. Average fulfillment time is around two weeks. I'd love to do it faster but there are only two of us. I have started closing orders the last week of every month and I'm hoping that will bring down overall fulfillment times but it might take a few months to see major effects as I catch up.
Try checking your spam folder and/or subfolders. If you see your confirmation email but not a shipping email your order hasn't shipped yet. If you see neither try doing an email search for Happy Cat Tie Dye. If you still see neither feel free to reach out and I'll try my best to sort it out. Shopify does weird things sometimes.
Yes! I ship everywhere Shopify will let me. I can't see customs and/or duties fees on my end so make sure you familiarize yourself with your country's customs regulations and fees so there are no surprises later!
Yes, once per order. If the new address is in a very different area than the original address there may be additional shipping charges.
1. The shipping speed you select at checkout only affects how fast your package gets from my door to yours, and it's only an estimate provided by the shipping company. The shipping option you select doesn't have any effect on my fulfillment times, I'm already fulfilling orders as fast as I can.
2. Once your package leaves my care there isn't anything I can do, at that point it's in the shipping company's hands.
This could be a few different things.
1. The billing address you entered doesn't match the billing address on the card.
2. You didn't enter your CCV, the three digit number on the back of the card.
3. Your bank/credit card is declining the transaction.
4. If you're using a payment method that isn't linked to a bank you may have insufficient funds.
5. If it's none of those things it's likely a Shopify error. Unfortunately it's a known error and there's nothing I can do except wait for them to fix it.
It depends on where your order is in the fulfillment process, but usually yes. Adding things to your order may incur additional shipping costs.
Monday through Friday starting 9am EST. End time varies but it's usually between 5pm and 6pm EST. We're closed on weekends and holidays.

These are fiber reactive dyes! They work best on cellulose fibers such as cotton, rayon, modal, hemp, bamboo, linen, etc. They can also be used on wood and protein fibers but the process is different. For protein fibers like silk and wool you'll want to replace soda ash with vinegar or citric acid and use heat during batching.
Absolutely! Soda ash raises the PH of your item which causes the chemical reaction that allows the dye to penetrate and permanently bond with the fabric. If you skip soda ash your results won't be vibrant. The exception is if you're working with protein fibers, in which case you'll want to use vinegar or citric acid instead.
Nope!
Absolutely! This is a common practice for hot water irrigation and sometimes ice dyers do it too. If you also liquid dye I would recommend not adding your soda ash to the dye directly and doing a soda ash soak instead, or to mix a little at a time in a separate container for hot water irrigation and/or ice dye use.
You may come across various acronyms, either here or in the Facebook group, although I've tried to keep them to a minimum here. This is what they stand for:
- DOI: Dye Over Ice
- DUI: Dye Under Ice
- SA/SAS: Soda Ash/Soda Ash Soak
- HWI: Hot Water Irrigation
- TDS: Tall Deep Scrunches
- PATS: Pinch And Twist Scrunch
- LWI: Low Water Immersion
This is going to vary based on your desired look, the size and thickness of your item, how much ice you use etc. A good starting point is to lightly sprinkle it on and add more as needed. You can always add more but you can't remove dye you've already added.
This depends on the ambient temperature and what dye method you chose. If you're doing hot water irrigation, low water immersion, or you finished your ice dye with 150° water wait an hour for it to cool down and you can start rinsing! If you're doing ice or liquid with no added heat you can't go wrong waiting 24-48 hours post ice melt.
Once all of your chosen process and batching steps are complete rinse your still tied item with cold water until it runs almost clear, repeat with hot water, untie and while rinsing in a temperature that's not hot enough to burn you but above lukewarm, then soak your item in hot water with a bit of normal blue dawn/other normal dish soap (don't use the power wash stuff) or textile detergent. Drain when the water cools, repeat until the water is mostly clear. Some people also opt to boil with dish soap/detergent instead. Wash on the longest, hottest cycle.
Wash on cold with like colors, tumble dry low or air dry. Try not to store them (or anything colorful really) in direct sunlight for long periods of time.
